Belarusian Independent Film Academy was launched at Berlinale

On February 18, belarussian filmmakers in exile presented Belarusian Independent Film Academy. Presentation took place at the European Film Market of the Berlin International Film Festival. Representatives of the Belarusian film community, heads of the European Film Fund, Berlinale and many others attended the foundation.

The Academy’s founders include producer Volia Chajkouskaya; directors Aliaksei Paluyan, Darya Zhuk and Andrei Kutsila; festival programmer Igor Soukmanov; and film critic Irena Kaciałovič.

Ten projects by Belarusian filmmakers were presented at the event. Daria Zhuk presented her feature film called "To this summer". The work focuses on three female characters during the events of 2020 in Belarus. "Letters" is the name of the film on which Belarusian documentarian Andrei Kutila is currently working. The project is based on the correspondence of Belarusian political prisoners and their relatives. The gaze of documentarian Ksenia Golubovych is focused on a refugee from Iraq who fell into a trap while heading to Belarus. Her project is called "I Made a Mistake Coming Here".
